CrossCult aims to be an open ecosystem of cultural ICT services for professionals and visitors. All those technologies developed during the project, will be available (free or eligible licensing format) at the CrossCult platform. See more information here.

We also aim to assess institutions on humanities issues related to this new era of digital relationship. In order to test and improve our business offer, four market-ready apps are being developed as a demonstrator. Those apps are relevant tools for the four project pilots to accomplish with the humanistic research objective, but furthermore they could be a good reference of CrossCult business applications and benefits for general public. Flagship services

This module permits experience designers build the final APP Look and Feel of this project, preview it and update it, so visitors and final users can access it with their mobile phones. With the App Generator you can construct the APP sections tree, manage app languages, select the template which adapts every content, change colors, fonts, etc., preview the final aspect and prepare all the stuff to be published.

This service works using two types of technologies: profiling tools and recommender tools. First at all, the system offer several option for profiling users, for example, through displaying a set of images and allowing users to like/dislike them. Next, the service provides recommendation based on the experience requirements and the user preferences, generate items recommendation to users based on their profile and provides word recommendations for question options based on keywords and given a list of paths of concepts.

Comments from users and other contents provided freely can be inappropriate or irrelevant. To avoid this App administrators or content manager may need a tool to moderate a big amount of comments in an easy way. This service provides an API to submit comments for moderation to the institution responsible for this task. The system is very friendly and agile to speed up this task and take advantage of common actions .The moderation can be also delegated to other user by CrowdFlower.

One of the most important aspects of carrying on an App project is to obtain real statistic data from users. This service offers adapted quantitative and graphic information about the final users interaction with the project app within an specific period of time. Other measures available are contents accessed and how long is interaction, in which order, language used, etc. The service relys on Yahoo Flurry stats engine.

Flagship pilots APPs

The National Gallery is one of the most famous painting museums in the world. National Gallery maintains a broad collection covering a wide variety of topics. In order to portray contents through new interpretations, this pilot App aims to illustrates the connections among people, places, and events throughout European History.

The experiments driven within this pilot App, examples how CrossCult could be used for Large – Multi-thematic venues. This project includes:

  • Profiling: Personalize your experience and enjoy exclusive recommendations during your visit.
  • Recommendations of paintings and different routes: the app build a specific rout for each visitor.
  • Group Management: Visitors can rate, group, discuss, tag, etc. the contents in a freely way.
  • Make your own Gallery: From your reflections, select paintings to be shown in an virtual room.

Small archeologial areas or small museums can find a new way to interact with their audiences offering them a reflective game. This pilot app will take you to connected topics all over the world within a cloud of concepts that you have discover playing with other team members.

This pilot connects teams of players at the same time at Montegrotto Therme in Italy, Chaves Roman Thermes in Spain and the Epidaurus at Athens.

The experiments driven within this pilot App, includes:

  • Team building tools: Organize your experience in family, groups of friends or schoolmates
  • Association Discovery: You can play various multimedia games to discover concept connections that will amaze your audiences and contextualize the archaeological facts

Remote but interesting museums must approach audiences in an original way. Also its visitors expects to get a worthwhile experience that pays their decision of visiting. Reflection is a great way to engage and sharing the experience is an opportunity to attract and generate new visitors

This pilot aims to present Greek ancient history from a different angle than that of other archaeological museums. It aims to engage visitors in exploring and understanding the unexpected connections between objects in the museums. The pilot focuses on the topic of women in ancient Greece, which functions as a cross-cutting topic that links many of the artefacts in the museum.

This pilot app demonstrates the social interaction tools like:

  • Mini Games: Easy making games like advergames available to personalize or made by third party developers.
  • Social Network tailored services: Chats, Social Profile Analysers, Microblogging, etc. made at your scale with or without using mainstream market tools.
  • 3D and Augmented Reality reconstructions to bring life to heritage and connect it with actual shape.

European cities are nowadays connected by transportation and ICTs, but their culture and belief grew differently depending on historical facts: war, migrations, commerce, etc. Pilot 4 is a multicity scenario situated in Valletta, Malta, and Luxembourg City, Luxembourg. Its purpose is to enable users to explore, reflect and reinterpret historic threads (topics) as they (re)discover the city; in doing so, they are able to uncover the variety of connections that coexist between both cities.

This will be achieved through the use of a personalised location-based game-playing app. The app will encourage users, through playful interactions, to evaluate both their surroundings and the historical objects (as well their descriptions) that they encounter hidden in the city.

This pilot app demonstrates the following CrossCult services for business applications to Cities or other “connectable histories”.

  • GPS tracking of the players: Delivery of geo-located historic content for non-linear storytelling.
  • Automatic recognition of the players’ location on first use.
  • Customisable interactive map that enables players to navigate the city. The map can be styled according to different needs (day vs night, etc.).
  • Development of game framework integrating, points, level and achievements.
